Privacy

Book Statistics has no accounts, no sign-up and no newsletter. We never ask for your name or email, and we do not sell data. We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to see, in aggregate, which figures people find useful, and some links to Amazon are affiliate links.

What we do not collect

There is nothing to log in to, so we hold no names, no email addresses and no accounts. We do not sell data and we do not build advertising profiles of our own. If we show ads served by Google AdSense, the section on advertising below explains what that involves.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to count, in aggregate, which statistics pages are read and which links are clicked — that is how we decide what to research next. In the EU, the EEA, the UK, Switzerland and California it runs with analytics storage switched off, so it sets no cookie there; elsewhere it can set a first-party cookie. We ask it to shorten your IP address.

We also use Microsoft Clarity, which records how pages are used (scrolling, clicks) so we can see where a page confuses readers. Clarity does not load at all when your device is set to a European time zone (the EU, the UK, Switzerland and nearby), so it sets no cookies there.

These tools report totals and trends; we do not use them to identify you. The site works completely normally if you block them with a content blocker.

Affiliate links

Pages also show one small Amazon product ad, marked Sponsored. Its photo loads from Amazon's image server (m.media-amazon.com) and its price comes from Amazon's product API through our own server, refreshed at most hourly. It sets no cookies of ours.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Where we link to a book on Amazon, that link is an affiliate link and is marked rel="sponsored". If you buy through one, Amazon may pay us a small commission at no extra cost to you. It never changes the price you pay, and it never changes a published figure — the numbers on this site come from cited sources, and a commercial link has never decided what we publish.

Once you follow a link to Amazon, their own privacy policy and cookies apply, not ours.

Advertising

We may show ads served by Google AdSense. If we do, Google and its partners, as third-party vendors, use cookies (and similar identifiers such as your IP address and device information) to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, and to measure them. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet. You can read how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services, and you can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ad Settings (or opt out of many third-party vendors at aboutads.info). If ads are shown, visitors in the EU, the UK and Switzerland are first asked for consent through Google's own consent message, and no ad cookie is set without it.

Corrections and requests

Because we hold no account or profile about you, there is normally nothing for us to export or delete. If you believe otherwise, or you want to raise a privacy question, email contact@vondelmedia.com and we will act on it.
